Chwalfa is brewed as a tribute to the quarrymen of Bethesda and their families who were vividly described in the famous Welsh novel ‘Chwalfa’ (Upheaval) written by T. Rowland Hughes. The novel describes the ‘Great Strike’at Penrhyn Quarry which lasted from 1900 to 1903.The picture on the beer label shows one of the quarrymen using a bugle to warn fellow workers of an impending explosion which was used to release more slate from the mountain. No doubt some of the quarrymen would have been glad of a glass of Chwalfa to relieve parched throats after a hard day’s work!
Delightful on its own but a fitting accompaniment to pasta, cheese or sea food
